Walmart Grants

Walmart grants

There are TWO different grants that Walmart gives to local non-profits. Ask the manager for an application for one of the following grants. Ask when they typically use up their grant money, and what months are better for asking. Many times, their grant money is used up for the entire year by the first few months.

Matching grant– Apply when you’ve had a successful fundraiser for Walmart to match your proceeds, up to $1,000! This is great for when you have made over $1,000, b/c then you’d maximize your matching grant. Talk with the Walmart manager to see if they’ve exhausted their grant money for this time period first, and if so, ask how long you can wait to put in your application. No Walmart employee must be present for this grant, and it does not have to take place ON Walmart property, such as a bake sale in front of the store.

Bonus grant– Similar to the matching grant, but uses a different fund. No fundraiser must be held, as this is a direct grant. Again, ask early so you know when to apply, and when

Volunteerism Always Pays Program (VAP)– Ask for the Community Involvement Coordinator for info on volunteering.

The Walmart Foundation gave away $170 Million in 2004, more than any other foundation in America. (NY Sun article, Oct 5,2005) http://www.nysun.com/article/21016
