Bake Sale Bidding
This fundraiser can be held as either a raffle or an auction. Host this special Bake Sale at your office, at your local schools, or at a special event in town.
This is NOT your ordinary bake sale! Each pie comes with a ’special’ item taped underneath the plate. For the business world, items such as a special parking place at work, 3 day weekend, 4 day weekend, bonus holidays, civilian clothes day passes, Boss for a Day, or Pie in the Face of a boss or manager would be ideal! At schools, free homework passes, Principal for a Day, and wacky clothes days would work nicely. If you have some donated gift certificates from local businesses, these can be taped under the pies as well. Free appetizers, $25 gift cards to restaurants, free movie rentals or movie passes and 50% off hair styling or manicures and massages would be great items for the pies.
Advertise this event at least a week in advance so co-workers/ attendees will know to bring money for this fundraiser. List the special items available on a large poster board so everyone can see what is in store for the auction. Then, cross them off one by one as the plates are purchased.
Start the bidding at $10 to $20 for the plate (depending on your audience and prizes), and let the audience know what comes with the pie, or keep it a secret until closer to the end to rev up final bids for the pie. Enlist the help of an enthusiastic auctioneer, or your best salespeople if you are doing this as a raffle. Your goal is to bring in as much money as possible through the bids and raffle ticket sales. An enthusiastic auctioneer/ salesperson is essential, and upbeat background music is also useful.
The pies can be basic whipped cream pies with graham cracker crusts, or you can use actual pies, cakes and plates of cookies and muffins donated by a bakery or made by volunteers.
Have fun turning an ordinary bake sale into a huge money maker! What could have brought in $200 for some plates of goodies can now bring in $800 or more for passes and door prize gift certificates that your group can obtain free and with little effort!
