Maddie’s Fund Announces New Grant Guidelines for Community Collaborative Projects
Maddie’s Fund, a private foundation devoted to the welfare of companion animals, has released new funding guidelines and application instructions for its Community Collaborative Projects program.
The purpose of this grants program is to support community-wide collaborations of no-kill organizations, animal control and traditional shelters, and private practice veterinarians, working together to implement an adoption guarantee and end the killing of healthy (adoptable) shelter dogs and cats in their community within five years. Under the new guidelines, city, county, regional, or state Veterinary Medical Associations (VMA) will be funded to administer the spay/neuter portion of these grants.
A Maddie’s Fund Community Collaborative Project is divided into two components: the Adoption Component and the Spay/Neuter Component.
The Adoption Component, entitled Maddie’s Pet Rescue Project, is administered by a no-kill organization and involves the collaborative efforts of rescue groups, animal control shelters, and traditional shelters to place more dogs and cats in loving homes and to reduce the deaths of shelter dogs and cats in the target community. The no-kill lead agency gathers baseline statistics from all of the animal shelters and rescue groups, formulates a budget and business plan for increasing shelter adoptions and reducing shelter deaths, and fills out the Adoption Application.
The Spay/Neuter Component, entitled Maddie’s Spay/Neuter (S/N) Project, is administered by a city, county, regional, or state VMA and provides spay/neuter surgeries for pets of people who receive Medicaid assistance and who reside in the target community. Spay/neuter surgeries are performed by local private practice veterinarians. The VMA contacts these practitioners to see if they’re interested in enrolling in the program, gathers baseline spay/neuter statistics from enrolled veterinarians, and submits the Spay/Neuter Application.
Maddie’s Fund will support animal welfare groups and veterinary medical associations that operate within the United States and are classified by the IRS as tax-exempt organizations.
Complete funding guidelines are available at the Maddie’s Fund Web site along with new adoption and spay/neuter applications.
