Just a few more comments that will hopefully be helpful too. People, as much as we would like them to, often do not read or pay attention to “educational” articles in a newsletter, so often the way to do it is incorporating it in the story of an animal, for ex. a dog that came in heartworm positive and the need for preventative care.
Sad stories with happy endings that your organization help make happen every day - lots of nice pictures, they tell stories just by themselves, and sell your organization.
Always include your upcoming events and provide them with various ways (and amounts) of helping your organization. The memorial section is always very popular as one has mentioned. Don’t forget to include a “in honor of” section. Set a minimum donation amount.
Vary your wish list otherwise people start tuning it out. Explain why you especially need something right now, for ex. KMR for motherless kittens or kiddie pools for dogs to splash in.
And preferably have a newsletter for your “outside” donors and supporters and a different one for your volunteers.
