Funding Interests:
Animal welfare, including efforts to:
1. protect endangered and threatened species by supporting conservation and research; and
2. reduce the homelessness, mistreatment and euthanasia of companion animals by supporting adoption, training, spay/neuter and other programs and by strengthening the capacity of organizations doing this work.
Geographic Focus:
* With respect to wild animals: National, including U.S. organizations with international programs.
* With respect to companion animals: Preference is given to organizations serving New York City and neighboring counties.
Restrictions:
No grants are made to individuals or private foundations or for matching gifts or loans. Organizations receiving support must not engage in or supply animals for vivisection.
Eligibility:
Organizations must be classified by the Internal Revenue Service as public charities and tax-exempt under section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986.
Grant Information:
Grant sizes vary, in the range of $30,000 to $150,000. Grants paid in 2007 totaled $1,210,000.
Grant Cycle:
Proposals should be received no later than July 1st; decisions are made before the Foundation’s fiscal year end, which is December 31st.
